Cpl. Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park is gearing up for its official skate park opening Saturday.
City workers are installing 2000 square meters of sod today. The Hart Community Association raised $6000 in three days after realizing users would destroy all the planned – and budgeted – grass seed.
For Association President Kristi Francis, this rapid financial support from local residents and businesses reinforced how much the community wants these upgrades. She has a lot in store for the opening on Saturday
“There will be some professional boarders to give a little demonstration of what they can do on this skate park so we’re really looking forward to that. I’m sure there will be lots of people just to celebrate having more park development in our community.”
The sod was one of the last steps in the first phase of upgrades. Surplus from the $6000 will help fund the next phase, which City Engineer and Park Project Manager Michael Le Morvan is already focusing on.
“There’s going to be two trails connecting to the park. There’s another one that’s going to go from Dagg Road all the way to Kennedy (Crescent).”
The next phase also includes planting more trees and installing more benches. The skate park ribbon-cutting is Saturday at 1 PM.
