Celebrating the Nechako, Fraser Sunday for BC Rivers Day

There’s a full day of events along Prince George’s riverfronts Sunday for BC Rivers Day.

The celebrations begin at 10 AM, honouring what the river means to the city’s history, economy, and growth.

Spokesperson Dustin Snyder says it’s important to remember how much we rely on the rivers.

“Them being clean, them having enough water, them being the right temperature. If you go back in Prince George’s history, there’s so much based around the river. Not only with the old steamboats and that sort of thing but with the First Nations as well.

While it’s good to recognize all the rivers have done for us, Snyder knows it’s important to focus on their futures as well.

“what goes down the drain could potentially end up in our watershed and because there’s so many animals, fish habitat, and wildlife is all based on that.”

Things like drumming, meditation, and fly fishing demonstrations are going on until 5:30. There will be a free salmon and bannock lunch around 12:30.
