Northern Health hires new Northern Interior Medical Health Officer

Northern Health has a new Medical Health Officer.

Dr. Andrew Gray began his duties at the end of August.

“I’m originally from Vancouver and I went to university and medical school there but I’ve been in Montreal for the past five years doing my specialty training in public health. This is a sort of homecoming for me, back to BC, looking to put down roots in the north.”

Gray says he’s enjoying the change of pace between Montreal and Prince George and is excited to be part of the regional health team.

“I’m really inspired by the work Northern Health is doing and that I want to be a part of. Their response to the opioid epidemic, being part of the conversation around resource development and balancing impacts on human health and the environment as well as economic benefits.”

He’s also keen to build stronger relationships with First Nations communities.

“Trying to respond to the recommendation of the truth and reconciliation commission in terms of building better relationships to try and close the health gap between indigenous and non-indigenous Canadians.”

Gray describes himself as an avid cyclist and reader and is looking forward to living and working in the North.
