Centennials crowned by Spruce Kings at showcase

It was an offensive performance fit for a king. A Prince George Spruce King to be exact.

Tanner Campbell led the way with 4 assists as the Spruce Kings lit up the Merritt Centennials 7-2 at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack.

Brett Mennear opened the scoring 3:37 into the game slapping home a sweet feed from Jamie Huber.

1:06 later Braiden Epp lit the lamp in his return to the lineup to double the lead.

The Spruce Kings would add 2 more before the end of the period courtesy of Ben Poisson and Cavin Tilsley for a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Drew Lennon made it 5-0 4:20 into the second period taking advantage of a scoring play from Campbell and Chong Lee.

Merritt would finally solve goaltender Liam McCloskey thanks to Brett Jewell 2nd of the season cutting the lead to 5-1 after 40 minutes.

Jamie Huber and Liam Watson-Brawn potted the remainder of the goals in the third period for Prince George while Zachary Zorn replied for the Centennials.

Prince George went 1 for 5 on the power-play while Merritt was 1 for 7.

McCloskey made 25 saves for the win.
