License suspension almost up, Connaught Motor Inn likely staying closed

The Connaught Motor Inn’s 3-month business license suspension is up September 30th, but it’s unlikely the hotel will be able to open for business.

The Inn has to fulfill all 15 of Council’s suggestions before the City will lift the business ban.

City Bylaw Services Manager Fred Crittenden believes some of the minor recommendations, like new smoke alarms and fire extinguishers, have been met.

He says most others, however, have not.

“The big items about the structural and building code things, electrical, plumbing, some of the healthy and safety issues are still fairly outstanding.”

The City hasn’t received a Business Operating Plan (staffing, security, operational changes), fire separation repairs haven’t been confirmed, and there’s also been no indication that the rooms are free of toxic chemicals, pesticides, or mould.

There haven’t been any documents sent in regarding a new security system nor has there been any certification about heating fixes.

Crittenden says the City has received a report from an instructional engineer but there are still outstanding questions.

When asked if the doors might remain closed, even after the ban is up, Crittenden said: “that’s what we anticipate, yes.”

Myprincegeorgenow.com has yet to hear back from Inn’s owners.
