Brown bear spotted near UNBC

We have been getting sightings reported of a brown bear on University Way near UNBC.
One witness, named Darren says he saw the bear while jogging down the hill, “I was coming down, on the right side, about half a kilometer up I saw the brown bear there, in the bushes.”
Conservation Officer Sgt. Rory Smith says the big message they want to get across is that nothing attracts wildlife more than food being left outside.
“Once we get that under control, everything else seems to fall in line, we don’t seem to have issues with bears hanging around, there’s no food, there’s no reward,” he says.
When we spoke with Sgt. Smith, he says the brown bear had not been reported to the Conservation Officer Service, but he advises caution to those on or near campus.
