Timberwolves MS come up short against Cascades, WS blanked by MacEwan

The final weekend of Canada West soccer for the UNBC men’s team ended on a disappointing note.

They played to a 1-1 draw on Friday and fell 2-0 on Saturday to the Fraser Valley Cascades.

In the opener, UFV opened the scoring, courtesy of James Najman, in the 12th minute to give the home side a 1-0 lead at the break.

Cheona Edzerza notched his 3rd of the season at the 59th minute to give UNBC the tie.

The Cascades would be a lot less generous the following night as Jassi Mahn and Justin Sekhon put their cleats to good use propelling Fraser Valley to a 2-0 shutout victory.

Both markers came in the 45th and 49th minute.

UNBC finished out of the playoffs with a 4-10-2 record.

On the women’s side, a Suekiana Choucair goal in the 33rd minute is all the MacEwan Griffins needed to dump UNBC on Saturday.

Lianna Toopitsin returned to the UNBC goal making 10 saves in the loss.

UNBC drops to 0-11-1 on the season and plays Mount Royal on Sunday.
