Spruce City Wildlife Association introduces new student scholarships

Full time UNBC and CNC students will soon have a new opportunity to help finance their education.

The Spruce City Wildlife Association Outdoor Pursuits scholarship is for students in forestry, conservation outdoor recreation and environmental studies as of next year.

“The application deadline is the end of December,” says Dustin Snyder, vice president of the association. “We will give them out at our annual fundraising banquet and that will be held in March.”

There will be three recipients – $1,000, $500 and $250 apiece. Students must provide proof of enrollment and complete a brief application, including an example of how they embody and hope to further the association’s ideals.

“We wanted to keep it as local as possible so it does need to be a program at CNC or UNBC. As long as you’re going into forestry, conservation, environment field, you’ll definitely be able to apply.”

Snyder says the scholarship is a way for the association to reciprocate the generosity it has received from the local community over the years.

“Spruce City Wildlife did have a memorial scholarship quite a few years ago. We want to get serious on some fundraising stuff and a big part of that is giving back, not only to fish, wildlife and habitat but to the people who also want to give back. Fostering that education process is definitely a part of that.”
