If you taken Queensway or 5th into downtown recently, you’ve probably noticed the brand new ‘Welcome to Prince George’ signs.
They were installed through a partnership between the City and Downtown Prince George.
“We were able to get a grant from Northern Development Initiative Trust in 2015,” says Colleen van Mook, the association’s executive director. “We’ve been working on this concept as a part of a larger placemaking program. I came on board in January and we’ve been working hard with our team to make this happen and now here it is.”
Northern Initiative Trust granted 40 thousand dollars for the two signs, which were designed by Northern Capital Woods Products.
Van Mook says they’re about boosting the profile of the city’s core.
“We want to make sure that people understand that there is a downtown and we’re working to attract people to come downtown either to live or to work or to shop. We’re realizing that we have to be proud of downtown and we have to be proud of our organization that supports the businesses downtown.”
