86 year old daily temperature mark shattered in Prince George

A new daily and monthly record was set temperature-wise in Prince George on Tuesday.

Greg Pearce with Environment Canada says an 86-year old record ended up getting shattered. “The old record that we had for November 8th was 16.7 set back in 1930 and yesterday’s high was 18.8 which also broke the monthly mark of 17.4 degrees in 1981.”

Pearce adds weather oddities like this take place in our area every now and again. “The old monthly record previous to yesterday’s was set well over 30 years ago but weather events like this do happen every few years.”

The strong ridge from the prairies was felt well beyond city limits says Pearce. “It was pretty well a province-wide event at least throughout the Central Interior where areas south of Prince George got up into the mid-teens and event into the low 20’s.”

Things will be a bit cooler for Wednesday with a high of 10 degrees expected in Prince George.

However, that mark will still be well above seasonal.
