Provincial group to discuss UN Sustainable Development Goals in Prince George

The BC Council for International Cooperation is sitting down with community leaders in Prince George Thursday evening to discuss the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Spokesperson, Michael Simpson says the topic of homelessness has been a popular one in smaller communities throughout the north.

“We have gone out to communities like Prince George, Terrace, and Kitimat about how they do that and what we have already found is a digital map of 2100 groups with their feet on the ground cleaning that agenda right now from homelessness to food banks, and poverty reduction.”

However, the climate change goal will be the biggest challenge according to Simpson.

“The climate change goal is by far the most difficult one to accomplish, if we wanted to keep the global temperature at 1.5 degrees we actually have to turn every engine, car and carbon emitting device off in the year 2020 which is only 3 to 4 years away now.”

The meeting begins at 7PM from Books and Company and the BCCIC has held 29 discussions over the past year working on sustainable development issues.
