Cougars beat the Raiders and then trade for their best player

The Prince George Cougars 4-2 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders was overshadowed by a major trade between the two teams that was announced on the 94.3 Goat radio post game show shortly after the game.

The Cougars acquired 19 year old defenceman Brendan Guhle from the Raiders in return for 17 year old defenceman Max Martin, 18 year old forward Kolby Johnson plus a first round WHL Bantam Draft pick in 2018 and a third round pick in 2019.

The 6’3”, 194 pound Guhle was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round (51st overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft and inked an entry-level contract with the Sabres a month later in July, 2015.

In 201 career WHL games (all with Prince Albert) Guhle has 74 points (17 goals) and 128 penalty minutes.

This season he has scored twice and added two assists in 15 games.

Originally selected by Raiders third overall in the 2012 Bantam Draft, Guhle has twice represented the WHL in the Canada Russia Series (2015 and 2016).

He is expected to make his P.G. debut when the Cougars host the CHL top ranked Regina Pats on Tuesday.
