BC residents have until January 9 to have their say on how rural education should be carried out.
People can join the online discussion here.
In Prince George, School District 57 Vice Chair Tim Bennett says a good chunk of their demographic is in the rural areas.
“We’re a really unique district in the fact we have such a rural-urban divide. 8-10% of our district is within our rural communities and is a priority of ours do the ongoing work of our rural committee.”
Bennett adds the rural schools have been very vocal. “We have heard a lot about ensuring their is adequate support and funding, especially in terms being able to provide a wide-range of programs at the secondary level so kids have the opportunity of a full experience.”
After the input session expires a draft discussion paper will be developed by Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Education Linda Larson.
It will then be followed by several regional meetings.
