Cougars rally late for Giant victory

The Prince George Cougars got back on track with a come from behind 4-3 O.T. victory over the Vancouver Giants in Langley (before just 2,870 fans) to end a two-game skid.

Brendan Guhle scored with 42 seconds left in the third (as goalie Ty Edmonds was on the bench for an extra attacker) and Brad Morrison followed up with the winner at 1:58 of overtime.

Morrison set up the Guhle tying goal.

Both Jansen Harkins and Jesse Gabrielle notched a goal and an assist in the opening period for the Cougars who outshot the last place Giants 46-22.

Ryan Kubic made 42 saves for Vancouver.

Guhle, Harkins, Morrison and Gabrielle were all overlooked by Hockey Canada as none of the Cougars were among 12 WHL players and 32 overall that were invited to the World Jr. Selection camp December 11-14 in Blainville, Quebec.

The Cougars improve to 19-6-2 on the season, including 11-3-1 on the road, and 4-1 against the Giants.

They are 12-1 against the B.C. Division and will begin December with a seven game home-stand.

The Cougars entertain the Victoria Royals Friday and Saturday.

Prince George leads the B.C. Division by 10 points over Victoria and is tied with Everett
for 2nd in the overall WHL standings with 40 points, three behind the Medicine Hat Tigers.

The Tigers are riding a 10-game win streak.
