Postal Workers Union ratifies agreements

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has ratified a tentative deal with Canada Post.

The union was able to get enough members to say yes on Saturday according to Local Union 812 President Tami Brushey.

“The urban agreement was ratified by almost 63% of the membership and 55% approved of the rural and suburban mail carriers deal.”

However, the final voting results represent a split union that isn’t completely satisfied with the final result.

“Depending on who you talk to some workers are very relieved and are just looking ahead and we have other members that are disappointed bitterly about this and aren’t happy with what’s been signed off on,” says Brushey.

The deal, promises a 2.5 per cent pay increase for urban carriers over two years and three per cent over the same span for rural carriers.
