Game Quest one of 15 Prince George companies nominated for BC Small Business Awards

The final ballots have been submitted for the 2016 BC Small Business awards.

Fifteen Prince George companies have been nominated in 10 categories.

One of the most nominated is Game Quest, which is up for four awards. This is the third consecutive year owner Kelsey Polnik and the shop have been nominated for the Premier’s People’s Choice award. Game Quest finished in the category’s top-10 in 2014 and top-5 in 2015, and is also nominated for Best Employer, Best Community Impact, and Best Company.

He feels Game Quest’s customer service has gotten the shop this level of recognition.

“It just boils down to getting the community involved so it doesn’t just feel like a store. People feel invested they’re willing to actually nominated for you and vote for you and show up to events and spread the word just by making them feel like their just as much a part of it as we are.”

Northern Lights Denture Clinic – Nominated in Best Company
Northern Lights Estate Winery – Nominated in Best Company, Best Community Impact
PG Plantscapes – Nominated in Best Company, Best Employer, Premier’s People’s Choice
Play Grounds Cafe – Nominated in Best Concept
Prince George Airport Authority – Nominated in Best Marketer
Prince Geroge Diaper Service – Nominated in Premier’s People’s Choice, Best Community Impact, Best Concept
Serengeti Northern BC-International & Specialty Grocery Store – Nominated in Premier’s People’s Choice, Best international trade
Summit Drapery – Nominated in Best Company

For better or worse, Polnik says it’s been a great experience giving company’s in bigger city’s a run for their money.

“I’m proud to represent Prince George once again. It’s been really cool the last few years seeing a bunch of businesses from Prince George ranked up against places like Kelowna, Vancouver, and Victoria. It’s really cool to compete with them”

The top-10 in each category will be announced on Tuesday.

The winners will be announced at a special event in February.

Low temperature record falls for Prince George

Prince George recorded its coldest temperature for October 13th this morning (Monday) according to Environment Canada. "Prince George Airport registered a low temperature of minus 9.5, which broke the record of minus 7.0, set in 1993," said Environment Canada Meteorologist Gary Dickinson.
