Sunday’s BCMML game between the Cariboo Cougars and the Kootenay Ice resembled a shooting gallery.
The host Cougars made short work of the visitors winning by a 10-1 score and outshooting them 66-11 in the process.
Craig Macdonald began the offensive onslaught just 31 seconds in taking advantage of strong efforts from Jonas Harkins and Jeremy Gervais.
Cariboo peppered Ice goaltender Jaysen MacLean who allowed four more goals in the period to Mason Richey, Gervais (2), and Devin Sutton.
The heat was cranked up even more in the middle frame which saw five additional goals from Cariboo this time off the sticks of Joel Patsey, Daine Dubois, Hunter Floris and Macdonald (2).
The game was only 40 minutes old and the score reached 10-0 after two periods with the shots sitting at 45-6.
Kootenay finally stymied the attack in the third period by not allowing a goal but still surrendered 21 shots toward MacLean.
Nine Cougar players had two or more points in the contest.
On Saturday, Cariboo skated away with an 8-0 victory at Kin 1 which was highlighted by a Mason Richey hat-trick.
Richey says the success he enjoys on the ice is not his alone. “I think a lot of it comes from my line mates, they set me up pretty nicely and all I had was tap-ins the entire game so it’s always nice.”
The 16-year old has been playing on the same line with fellow forward and Williams Lake product Daine Dubois for two seasons now and says is a part of the reason why they’re able to contribute offensively. “We trust each other enough that if we move to our direction we’ll get it back.”
Jeremy Gervais potted a pair of markers in the victory followed by Ty Kolle, Reid Perepeluk, and Craig Macdonald.
Cariboo improves to 19-2-1 on the season and wraps up the pre-Christmas schedule on the road next weekend in Nanaimo against the North Island Silvertips.
