Chilly conditions expected to last another week in Prince George

The deep freeze here in Prince George will enter its second week according to Environment Canada.

Trevor Smith at the Weather Office says it will only get colder by the weekend.

“It looks like temperatures for this week will see overnight lows around -26 or so but as we get into Friday and Saturday we’re actually going to see overnight low temperatures into the minus 30’s.”

Despite the frigid temperatures, no new records will be set says Smith. “In terms of how cold the temperatures are in Prince George we’re not even close to records this week. Looking back at our climate data, the records are all in the -40 range.”

The Arctic air mass has caused havoc across the province with ice storms causing damage to wind shields in the lower mainland.

Power outages and school closures have also taken place in the south.

Daytime high’s from Tuesday to Friday should be in the -20 to -23 range with sunshine in the forecast.
