School District pleads to government and BCTF

Prince George’s school district board has sent out a letter to the government and the BC Teachers Federation, urging them to go back to the bargaining table.

Board Chair Sharel Warrington says both sides need to continue negotiating.

“We really need to see the negotiations begin with earnest. The delay is really, as we say, unacceptable.”

Prince George District Teachers Association President Tina Cousins (pictured) says she wasn’t happy with how the letter was worded.

“I was concerned with that letter in the sense of I felt it painted us in the same light as the government. We’ve made concessions at the bargaining table, and we’re waiting for the government to come back with some new money.”

Cousins and other teachers rallied outside the school district board office today.

Warrington says the board is not taking sides, as the letter was to appeal to both the government and the BCTF to resume negotiations.
