Cougars blow away the Hurricanes in the third

The Prince George Cougars pulled off one of their biggest comebacks ever in posting a 6-5 shootout victory in Lethbridge over the Hurricanes.

The Cougars scored four unanswered goals in the third period to erase a 5-1 deficit.

Newly acquired Nikita Popugaev led the attack with a goal, two assists and the only goal in the shootout.

Brogan O’Brien notched the last two goals in regulation and was plus three.

Jesse Gabrielle and Josh Curtis also tallied for the Cats who were outshot 42-39.

Nick McBride made 37 saves as P.G. improved its road record to 16-5-1.

Both teams finished the game one-for-four on the power play and each team netted a shorthanded goal.

It marked the second consecutive game that the Cougars won despite trailing after two periods.

The 30-12-2 Cougars conclude a four game Alberta road trip Saturday in Calgary.
