Nomination period for new McBride councillors opens tomorrow

The nomination period for would-be McBride councillors opens up tomorrow at 9 AM.

All those interested in running in the upcoming by-election must submit the necessary forms to the Village of McBride (100 Robson Centre, McBride) or to the Regional District Office (155 George Street, Prince George) by January 27th at 4 PM. All applicants must also be Canadian, have lived in BC for at least the past six months, and be at least 18 years old on Election Day (March 4th).

Once the nomination period closes, Regional District of Fraser-Fort George CEO Karla Jansen will take charge.

“I would be making a declaration of candidates and then a week following that I would be making either a declaration of election by voting or declaration of acclamation if we only receive three qualified nominations.”

In the case that two or fewer names are submitted, Jansen can extend the nomination period.

Three McBride councillors quit in November and temporarily left the Village without quorum. Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development Peter Fassbender awarded quorum to the two remaining councillors – Rick Thompson and Mayor Loranne Martin – in early December.
