Timberwolves put Bisons out to pasture in WBB but Manitoba nips UNBC in MBB

Talk about a bye week well spent.

The UNBC Lady Timberwolves made it three straight wins after outlasting the Manitoba Bisons on Friday 85-75 in Winnipeg.

Maria Mongomo led the way offensively with 23 points including an 8 for 12 showing on field goals.

Vasiliki Louka also chipped in with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Manitoba was led by Emma Thompson who recorded 19 points in defeat.

UNBC improves to 6-9 while Manitoba drops to 1-14.

On the men’s side, it was the 7th straight loss for the Timberwolves who fell 86-85 to Manitoba.

After falling behind 50-41 at half-time, the Timberwolves stormed back outscoring the Bisons 31-20 in the third quarter.

Marcus MacKay had the most points for the Timberwolves with 28 including an 8 for 10 outing from three-point range.

AJ Basi was the leading scorer for Manitoba with 23 points.

UNBC drops to 4-11 while Manitoba is now 9-6.

Both varsity teams play again on Saturday against Manitoba.
