Nine nominated for McBride council, campaigning for three open spots

The Village of McBride was given a quorum from the BC government after three of its councillors walked out and quit in November 2016.

As of Friday afternoon, the nomination period closed and nine people have officially thrown their names in the ring for the upcoming by-election.

Chief Election Officer Karla Jansen says this is a great sign of what could happen in the future.

“It is always good to see people come forward and become involved in their community, and it can do nothing but benefit the community.”

Five men and four women, all residing in McBride, will be campaigning for the three vacant positions, but Jansen adds they do have the option of dropping out.

“Candidates have until 4PM on February 3rd to withdraw if they wish, and then on February 6th, I will either be issuing a declaration of election by voting or a declaration of election by acclamation.”

The list of nominees, in alphabetical order, include:

– Bob Balcaen
– Harold Edwards
– Allan Frederick
– Lucille Green
– Rosemary Hruby
– Mike Moseley
– Irene Rejman
– Joseph Rich
– Diane Smith

Election day will be March 4th, 2017.
