The Prince George Cougars have signed forward Ethan O’Rourke of Penticton to a standard WHL contract. The 6’3”, 175 pound O’Rourke was chosen by the Cougars in the third round (53rd overall) in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. Last season with the Okanagan Hockey Academy, he tallied 35 points (including 18 goals) in addition to 26 penalty minutes in 58 games. O’Rourke is the third signed P.G. Cougars prospect from this year’s WHL Bantam Draft joining fellow B.C. born forward Justin Almeida of Kitimat and defenceman Max Martin of Winnipeg. The Cats open training camp August 22nd at CN Centre.

–44 players, including Jansen Harkins of the PG Cougars, will attend Canada’s U18 national team training camp which begins Saturday in Calgary. A total of 12 forwards, 8 defencemen and two goalies will be chosen to play for Canada in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament August 11-16 in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

–The two-time defending champion Prince George Total Tops Midget Knights are competing today through Sunday at
the Provincial Midget (U-18) Double “A” Baseball Championship in Mission. The winner of the 10-team tournament will advance to the Westerns in two weeks in Swift Current.

–The Men’s Simon Fraser will be featured this long weekend at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club. The 54 hole tournament starts Saturday morning and concludes Monday afternoon. Defending champion Keenan Hopson is back to defend his title.
