Jansen Harkins of the Prince George Cougars notched two assists for Canada in a 5-1 win over host Slovakia at the under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup hockey tournament. The Canadian team finished 3-0 in round robin play, winning each of those games by a 5-1 score. Canada will play the U.S. while the Czech Republic battles Sweden on Friday in the semi-finals. The gold medal game will follow Saturday.
Canada has won the annual summer tournament six consecutive years and 18 times overall since ’91.

–Former Prince George resident Darcy Rota has left the BCHL champion Coquitlam Express after 13 years with the team. The 61-year-old Rota, who played 794 regular season games in the NHL (1973-84) handed in his resignation as Team President and Governor. Under Rota’s watch, the Express won the Royal Bank Cup (2006), and the Fred Page Cup (2006, 2014).

–Four Prince George teams plus one from Port Moody will compete in the Treasure Cove Provincial Senior C Invitational Lacrosse Championship at Kin 1. Play begins Friday at 4pm with the final Sunday at 3:30.

“Adventures with First Responders” gives SD 57 students a taste of first responders careers

The Prince George Spruce Kings kept the Surrey Eagles out of the win column with a 5-2 decision. The Spruce Kings opened the scoring early, with Marcus Lougheed scoring on the powerplay 2:47 into the opening period. 

Cougars fall to T-Birds in tight affair

It was a tight, physical game right until the end, but the Prince George Cougars dropped a 4-3 decision to the Seattle Thunderbirds."We got chasing the game a little bit but we got back in it, it was a hard fought game by both teams," said Cougars Head Coach and GM Mark Lamb on the post-game show on 94.3 the Goat.
