Severe Thunderstorm watch issued for Prince George

The weekend in Prince George might get off to a rocky start weather-wise according to Environment Canada.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued with 10 to 20 millimetres of rain expected.

Meteorologist Jennifer Hay says it should get underway around lunch time.

“Your risk in the area is about noon through this afternoon and then it should be dying off by this evening. If we see anything developing as it approaches the city or within the region, we would issue a warning.”

Hay adds the rain could be accompanied by some hostile conditions.

“So the risk today in the Prince George area is hail which could be up to 20 millimetres in size with wind gusts up to 80 kilometres per hour is what you could see there.”

Hay adds the recent high ridge over the province is breaking down and is being swallowed up by a cold front.

Friday’s predicted high is 18 degrees.
