BC 2017 Election results, minority government a strong possibility

UPDATE, 12:30 am:

It appears that B.C. will have a minority government for the first time in 65 years (1952).

The unofficial Elections BC numbers have the Liberals elected in 43 ridings, the NDP elected in 41 ridings with the Green Party holding the balance of power with three of its members elected.

44 is the total needed for a majority government.

Final official results will not be available until the absentee ballots are counted May 22nd to 24th.

There are some ridings where a re-count will occur, including Courtenay-Comox where the NDP won by just nine votes over the Liberals.

The popular vote has the Liberals with 40.93%, the NDP with 39.86% and the Green Party with 16.65%.

UPDATE, 11:30 pm: BC’s provincial election is coming down to the wire.

The latest update, according to Elections BC, the BC Liberals have been elected or are leading in 43 ridings with the NDP elected or leading in 41. The BC Greens have been elected in three ridings and that’s all they are likely to take.

Forty-four is the magic number for a majority government, still a possibility for the BC Liberals.

Posted 10:30 pm: The 2017 BC Election has been a nailbiter.

For the first time since 1952, a minority government is a strong possibility.

The Liberals have 41 candidates elected while the NDP have 39 elected followed by the BC Green Party with 3 candidates elected.

The BC Liberals have 42 candidates leading or elected while the NDP also has 42 candidates leading or elected.

44 seats are needed for a majority government with 4 ridings still to be determined.

Party Leaders, John Horgan, Christy Clark and Andrew Weaver all one their respective ridings.

According to Elections BC, the final results of the provincial election will not be available until all the absentee ballots are tallied May 22 to 24.
