Local Business Owner Disputes Second Hand Shop Bylaws

The owner of a Prince George second hand video game store is hoping to make some changes to the city’s second hand and pawn shop bylaws.

GameQuest owner Kelsey Polnik is organizing a march on city hall Monday to dispute the “Second-Hand Dealers and Pawnbroker Bylaw 8098″ which requires shop owners to hold merchandise for 30 days before selling it. He hopes to get the holding period reduced to seven days for all of Prince George’s second hand shops.

Polnik says he is running out of space to store merchandise despite having demand for it from customers.

“It is atrocious” He says, “The store’s backroom is full, we’ve turned the bathroom into storage, we’ve got two rooms in my house full of overstocked things just waiting for that 30 days before they can come out”

Polnik is on the agenda Monday at city council and hopes the community will come out and support the changes.
