An investigation by the Prince George RCMP into a reported assault this week turned into a significant drug and weapons seizure.
Early on Tuesday morning, officers responded to a possible assault in progress at a residence on Royal Crescent. A woman was found in the residence but officers found evidence to suggest that at least one person had escaped out of a window. A police dog service team was called in and located three men hiding in a wooded area nearby.
A stolen vehicle from Alberta was in the driveway and, after obtaining a search warrant, officers found:
· Three marijuana plants along with a quantity of dried marijuana;
· Quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine;
· Two machetes and several knives;
· Nun-chucks, which are a prohibited;
· Multiple firearms, including shotguns and a prohibited handgun, along with ammunition;
· Drug trafficking paraphernalia;
· Two laptops; and
· A number of items believed to be used to make fraudulent identification.
Four people were arrested, although one was released without charge.
Thirty-one year old Jason Paul Mathany, recently moved to Prince George from Calgary. He has been charged with a total of 10 Criminal Code offenses:
· Assault;
· Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000;
· Careless Storage of a Firearm (3 counts); and
· Possession of a Firearm without a Licence (6 counts).
Dana Louise Funk, 24 also a recent transplant from Calgary, has been charged with nine Criminal Code offences:
· Careless Storage of a Firearm (3 counts); and
· Possession of a Firearm without a Licence (6 counts).
Charles Dalton Darling, 48, is Calgary, and has been charged with one Criminal Code offence:
· Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
The Prince George RCMP’s Street Crew Unit is leading the investigation and more charges are possible.
