Transit facility reconsideration likely to take centre stage at Council meeting

The most talked about item before City Council this evening is a letter from the Mayor.

It recommends that Council revokes its support for the proposed BC Transit facility at 18th and Foothills. It also suggests that Council direct staff to begin considering alternative locations for the project. Hundreds of people showed up to an information session on the project last month – many of them were angry about the impact it would have on the greenspace corridor between Ginter’s Meadow and CN Centre.

The Prince George Downtown Business Association will also be before Council to present its year-end report for 2016. The association’s facade grant program gave more than 100 thousand dollars to local businesses for 17 projects last year, more than twice the number it supported in 2015.

City staff is looking for Council’s approval to apply for an up to $30,000 grant from Northern Development Initiative Trust. This would help update the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre’s audio-visual system.

Council will also be congratulating Councillor Murry Krause and Brian Skakun on 15 years of civic service and Councillor Garth Frizzell on his election as Third Vice-President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

This evening’s meeting begins at 6 pm in the Council Chamber. You can see the full agenda here.
