Three big announcements to kick off new UNBC year

It was a big day up the University of Northern British Columbia today. The day started off with an announcement from the government that $1.1 million dollars will be going to upgrade the bio-energy system. Minister of Advanced Education Amrik Virk says the money will be used to connect the facility to other builds across campus.

“With this we thought that we can facilitate using the same, cutting edge technology,” says Virk, “to heat another of other buildings like the day care to a number of other buildings.”

The second big announcement of the day was that the Canada Winter Games will be holding its closing ceremonies at UNBC’s Agora, and CEO Stu Ballantyne says it will provide a great view.

You know we thought it would be a great way to send off all these athletes,” says Ballantyne, “and all these people that have been apart of the games, and for all the people that live here, what a great way to showcase UNBC and the particular vistas at this campus.”

The day concluded with the kick-off to UNBC’s 25th Anniversary celebrations, with a tree planting.
