Police nab excessive speeder with spike belt

A high speed chase earlier this week saw police nab a speeder thanks to a spike belt.

On Monday, a traffic officer clocked a truck on Highway 97 driving at speeds over 160 kilometres an hour.

The driver refused to pull over or stop while he was pursued by Mackenzie RCMP officers, but a road block near the Parsnip Bridge caught the vehicle after a spike belt was deployed on the road.

The 24 year-old driver surrendered and police say his license was suspended for two weeks and his vehicle impounded.

Police say his driving privileges will be reviewed.

He is scheduled to appear in court December 17th, 2014.
