Hundreds rally outside MLA Shirley Bond's office in support of BC teachers

BC Federation of Labour President Jim Sinclair spoke to hundreds of teachers and supporters in front of MLA Shirley Bond’s office downtown Prince George this evening.

The hour long rally featured speakers representing teachers, parents, the United Steelworkers.

A reoccurring theme throughout the speeches was the BC Supreme Court ruling that overturned the BC Liberals decision to remove class size and composition stipulations from the teacher’s collective bargaining agreement.

Jim Sinclair also blasted the governments 40 dollar a day child care subsidy saying in was indicative of a government that really didn’t care to settle the dispute.

“The fact is, we did the poll” Sinclair spoke, “We asked the people of BC what should we do with the 40 bucks? Give it to parents, or put it into the public education system? And 75% of people said don’t give us the 40 bucks; fix the education system for our kids!”

The speakers urged supporters to call and write to their MLAs with one parent supporter declaring “The squeaky wheel gets the grease”
