Variety – The Children’s Charity Radiothon kicks off Wednesday

The 13th Annual Variety – The Children’s Charity Radiothon is just days away.

You can help out local kids and families in need by donating through 94.3 the Goat and Country 97 Wednesday and Thursday anytime between 6 AM – 6 PM.

The event has raised over $680,000 for and donated 3,300 Variety bears to Prince George and Vanderhoof kids and families, helping with things like mobility equipment, special vehicles, wheelchairs, special therapy, medication, education, and counselling.

The money helps people like Courtney – who has cystic fibrosis – and her family with the financial load. Her mother, Melanie, says medication alone can cost $120,000 a year, and month-long trips to the hospital mean Mom and Dad have to take time off work. That’s where Variety helps out.

“We do have a Fair PharmaCare deductible that we need to match and usually people have 12 months to break that up but because Courtney’s meds are about $10,000 a month, we have to hit that Fair PharmaCare care in January and that can be a struggle,” she says, “Variety helps us hit our Fair PharmaCare deductible so that we can get meds covered for the rest of the year.”

Last year was not only Prince George’s best, but BC’s best Variety event ever (at the time), raising $77,346.35 and donating 352 buddy bears.

To donate, call 250-564-2524, drop by 2977 Ferry Avenue, or go online.
