City’s 2016 Annual Report to be presented at Council

City staff will be presenting the City of Prince George 2016 Annual Report at this evening’s council meeting. The report includes highlights from 2016, workplans for 2017 and the City’s financial statements for 2016.

The City ran a surplus of $28,047 in 2016 and spent more than $7 million on road repair and rehabilitation. Construction in the City reached an all time high with 455 building permits issued for a total of $127 million, according to the report. Ninety-six percent of those permits were purchased by private businesses.

The Prince George Public Library and Tourism Prince George will also present their annual reports for 2016.

Au Rico Metals will also be attending, to present the details of their Kemess Mine projects.

Exploration Place is asking the City to fund needed repairs to the Little Prince and build a new train shed for the engine. The current building has issues with leaks and flooding and the organization’s report describes it as “an eyesore.” The proposed new building would be larger, allowing for more room to perform maintenance on the train and to store four cords of wood. Exploration Place is asking that the City add the costs of the project to the capital plan to be replaced next spring and that the City create a reserve in order to address future maintenance costs. Without major repairs, Exploration Place says this may be the last season of operation for the attraction.

The meeting begins at 6 pm in the Council Chambers. You can read the full agenda here.
