Prince George’s Relay for Life in 2017 has now raised an impressive $570,000.
It was the fundraiser’s silver anniversary celebrating 25 years.
The city is looking to hold onto the top spot for a fourth straight year but is facing some stiff competition according to Relay for Life Coordinator, Aimee Cassie.
“We’ve got Downsview Park out of Toronto and they’ve surpassed the $500,000 mark, so really Prince George is in the final push for fundraising to see if we can hold onto our title of number one.”
The group hopes to reach another high by Friday.
“So we’re doing a final push right now with me and Doug Jones have offering to shave our heads if we hit the $600,000 mark. I think there’s a lot of people pushing for that so we can shave our head,” says Cassie.
It’s truly a David versus Goliath scenario Cassie says.
“I think our population count is at 74,000 right now and Toronto is almost at 3 million, so it’s pretty impressive that Prince George is giving Toronto a run in terms of Relay For Life.”
The much-anticipated event saw over 1100 participants and over 100 teams arrive at Masich Place Stadium on Mother’s Day weekend.
