Fire west of 100 Mile House grows to 3,200 hectares

The BC Wildfire Service reported that as of 3pm (Saturday, July 8) that the fire near the Gustafson North Forest Service is estimated to be 3,200 hectares in size.

“Smoke being generated by the fire is making it difficult to ascertain its exact size,” said the Service in an information bulletin.

“The fire is expected to grow substantially in the next hours and the amount of growth is dependent on weather and wind conditions.”

The 100 Mile House Fire Rescue is on site with 120 firefighters, a 25-person Incident Management Team and support staff, 4 helicopters, air tankers, and 15 pieces of heavy equipment.

RCMP have restricted access to the nearby area for public safety.

The active fire is 0% contained.
