Prince George Public Library to welcome wildfire evacuees with open arms

More traffic is expected at the Prince George Public Library now that free resources are being offered to evacuees.

An occurrence like this isn’t very common says chief librarian Janet Marren.

“Usually your residency in your local town will give you access to library services but because we have so many people who are in our city and had to leave quickly and may need access to information whether it is books, movies or papers we felt that it would be great to be able to offer our full collections to people who are displaced because of the wildfires.”

A new type of borrowers card has been developed by the PGPL where people who are evacuees can register and fill out an online application if they are unable to make it to one of the branches.

Free internet access is also being offered at either the Nechako or Bob Harkins branch, Marren says.

“We have always had free internet access at the library for all of our residents and all of our visitors and that includes any of the people who are here in the city as an evacuee they are welcome to come into either of our branches. We also have free unlimited WiFi for as long as they would like as long as they have their own mobile devices.”

People can also have up to two hours of online access through any Internet Computer Station.
