Williams Lake evacuation order hits home for VISTA reporter

What’s it like to be evacuated?

Our colleague Rebecca Kelli, a Williams Lake-based reporter forMy CaribooNow, now understands what that feels like.

She left Williams Lake just after 6 pm Saturday night and began the long journey to Prince George.

“I made the long journey through Valemount and McBride. There were actually not too many going to PG at the time I went. I got into the city closer to 8 am.”

Kelli says the traffic was all bumper-to-bumper.

She says when they got there, the volunteers at the College of New Caledonia (CNC) were great.

“They had a bulletin board with sticky notes and residents allowing evacuees come into their homes, there giving available rooms, even their own backyards for people who have pets. So that was really something.”

Kelli says she saw a lot of smoke on her journey up North, but no signs of any real fire activity.

Something going on in the Prince George area you think people should know about?
