Prince George exceeds 8,000 Wildfire evacuees

According to the City of Prince George, the number of evacuees from the Cariboo region has now exceeded more than 8,000 people.

This includes people lodged at the College of New caledonia (CNC), the Northern Sport Centre on the UNBC campus, and those staying with family and friends.

The North Cariboo SPCA has taken in 35 dogs in their kennels on the grounds of Duchess Park Secondary School (DPSS), and at Exhibition Park, the Agriplex is housing 178 horses, 36 chickens, five goats, two sheep, and one pig.

In addition, an estimated $800,000 in grocery vouchers have been distributed amongst evacuees.

A third town hall meeting is scheduled for tonight, 5 pm in UNBC’s Canfor Theatre. It will also be simulcast to Room 1-306 at the College of New Caledonia and to the Northern Sport Centre and can be viewed online.

The BC Wildfire Service will provide an update, and more information on evacuee services across the City will be available.
