Little rain on the horizon for Prince George and northern BC

The warm weather will continue to stretch across northern BC.

Little relief is on the way for regions like the Cariboo as they continue to battle the wildfires.

“There doesn’t seem to be any significant rain in the forecast but we will have the risk of thunderstorms for today,” says Greg Pearce, Environment Canada meteorologist. “With the thunderstorms, of course, you always run the risk of starting more fires and the storms can also bring some gusty winds so it’s kind of a double-edged sword.”

Weather conditions in the region, including Prince George, are predicted to remain dry.

“What we have is a very hot and dry air mass over the southern interior and further north it is quite a bit cooler up around Prince George with temperatures into the low 20s. In contrast, places like Kamloops are going to be up into the low to mid-30s over the next few days so you’re kind of in that transition zone between the very hot and the cooler air mass to the north,” says Pearce.

Temperatures could range between 20 and 27 degrees Celsius Pearce says.

“We work our way through the front coming through probably Saturday night and that gives us a chance of showers but then we’re into steadily increasing temperatures through the early part of next week. By Wednesday of next week, Prince George has a forecasted high of 27.”

The ridge will re-establish further north and is expected to reach the Cariboo with predicted daily temperatures of 30 degrees.
