Brooks notes "fundamental problem" when it comes to Mentzeloplous suit

BC Conservative Leader Dan Brooks is calling out the Clark government for a policy that allows some bureaucrats to have their legal bills paid for by taxpayers.

Anthana Mentzelopolous, Liberal staffer and personal friend of Christy Clark filed a defamation lawsuit against NDP MLA Rob Fleming after he accused her of cronyism.

Dan Brooks says that given Mentzelopolous’s recent thirty thousand dollar pay raise, she can probably afford to pay her own legal bills.

“There is a fundamental problem whenever you have a government employee,” says Brooks, “that files a defamation suit against a opposition critic and then gets their legal bills paid for by the government.”

He also pointed out the lawyers Mentzelopolous is retaining for the case are closely tied political donors of the Liberal party.
