Dementia Conference works to break the stigma

Public awareness was the idea behind a conference on dementia held in Prince George today. The Me in Dementia Workshop was held for care givers, health care providers and those who have no connection to the disease. Provincial Program Coordinator Jan Robson says having conferences like these can help break the stigma.

“We hear of people being treated significantly differently once they get the diagnosis,” says Robson, “so today everyone treats them normally, they get a diagnosis later today and tomorrow people treat them as if they are less than.”

Robson says there are many resources available for those who are going through dementia or know someone who is. She says a good starting point is www.alzheimerbc.org.
