WorksafeBC launches campaign to prevent falls from heights on job sites

WorksafeBC is kicking off a new campaign highlighting the danger of falls from heights at work sites .

Media Relations Manager Trish Chernecki wants to get the word out that falls at sites can lead to serious injury or death.

“One of the goals of this campaign is to encourage ownership of the culture of safety in the industry by employers and workers,” she says. “We hope that they will overcome any reluctance to talk about safety and speak up about the risks from falls on their work sites.”

Chernecki says a fall doesn’t have to be from a fatal height to have catastrophic effects.

“In fact, most of our falls are from roofers, so they’re only one or two storeys up, or falls from ladders, so that can just be nine or 10 feet, it depends what they fall ON, but typically they fall on concrete, or there might be some things underneath them and it can be very serious.”
