Incident in Vanderhoof posed no threat

A threat of a “suspicious item” in Vanderhoof that saw several buildings evacuated Thursday turned out to pose no threat to the public.

Local RCMP were called to a report of a suspicious material at a mill earlier in the morning. The mill was evacuated and police secured the area. Their investigation led them to a residence in the Vanderview Dr. area where the subject of the incident was taken into custody. Residents in the area were either evacuated or warned to stay in their homes.

Vanderhoof RCMP found the material that was originally believed to be suspicious in nature, but say it posed no threat

The person of interest has since been released and mill operations have returned to normal.
