Saturday night saw the final edition of the Evening of Pink in Prince George. The annual cancer fundraiser held its last hurrah as it raised money for at Spect C-T scanner for UHNBC Hospital. Organizer Monica Peacock says the motivation behind the event has always been about awareness for young people.
“Whether thats for breast cancer, whether that’s for prostate cancer it doesn’t matter,” says Peacock, “young people need to know about the ailments in our life, and how living a strong, healthy life can make a difference.”
Peacock says in the past ten years, the Evening of Pink has been able to raise over $170,000 for local health care.
Peacock also announced her intentions to run for Prince George City Council last night.
“I need something new and I think that I can fight for those in our community and I beleive that’s the people, so hopefully they will see that I’m passionate about what I believe and will look forward to supporting me.”
Peacock was named Prince George’s Citizen of the Year in 2012.
