Donalda Carson announces retirement

After 2 decades at the helm, Donalda Carson is retiring from the Prince George Hospice Society.

As the executive director of the hospice, Carson has seen hospice care come a very long way in 20 years;

“In the beginning it was difficult for people to know what we did. If they did know that we looked after the dying, they were often afraid of us. That’s understandable I suppose, because really we’ve been a death denying society since the beginning of time”

She leaves the hospice in good financial shape through fundraising efforts like the Home Lottery, and although she’s looking forward to retirement she says she’ll miss the people;

“I’m going to miss the people. All the people; the staff, the volunteers and especially the public. I will miss the pride I get when I’m in hospice house and I see a family benefiting from our existence.”

Her retirement plans include travel, starting with a trip to Brazil in February, as well as volunteer work and maybe even writing a book.

She officially retires on January 31st
