BC posts 14,000 additional job vacancies, Prince George-Cariboo remains stable

The number of job vacancies in the Prince George-Cariboo economic region held steady over the past year.

“There were an estimated 2,100 job vacancies in the second quarter of 2017 and this is little changed from one year earlier,” says Myriam Hazel, Stats Canada analyst.

Provincially, the number of job vacancies led the country. “The job vacancy rate in British Columbia stood at 4%, up from 3.5% one year earlier.”

Over 14,000 more job vacancies were recorded in the province compared to the same time last year – that’s an increase of 18.8%.

When we look at the wages being offered for our region when compared to the rest of the province, it’s a virtual dead heat.

“The average offered wage for vacant positions in the Cariboo stood at $19.65 compared with $19.60 for the province as a whole,” added Hazel.

The highest offered wages in the region are in education, law and social community services at $30.85 per hour.

The number of job vacancies in Canada increased by 17.2% in the second quarter bringing the rate to 2.9%.
