There’s no way to fix Four Seasons Pool: Architect

An open house was held today at the Four Seasons Leisure Pool to see first-hand the outdated conditions ahead of the referendum vote at the end of October.

Members of the media were brought down underneath the pool to see the condition of the pipes that hold various chemicals used in the pool water.

Most of the pipes are rusted, corroded, and even effecting the concrete holding the structure, which has become cracked due to leaks and aging conditions.

Architect Doug Wournell, who conducted last year’s aquatic needs assessment for the City, says the building is safe, but needs an upgrade.

“We use different materials now, so this hanger would be made of a polyethylene hanger. All the pipes would be polyethylene or plastic pipe in order to avoid the costic environment of a pool.”

Wournell adds there’s not enough space for workers to operate below the structure.

“There’s no way to fix this and no way to come in and scower. These areas and make this right again and over time give it a few more years we would actually start to see some structural problems.”

Another concern pointed out was handicap accessibility, which doesn’t meet today’s standards compared to when the structure was build back in 1970.

The public will get a chance to view the pool during an open house Wednesday, October 18th with city officials and Wournell from 4:30PM to 8PM.

The referendum vote will be held on October 28th at UNBC and City Hall.
