Northern Health Connections service sees changes and new bus

Northern Health has a shiny new bus.

The newest addition to their connections health care service was unveiled today. The service provides transportation to those needing healthcare outside of their communities.

But Coordinator Maureen Haley says they want people to use it for preventative care too.

“Not necessarily just when you are sick. So if you need to come in for a dentist or eye appointment because it’s not available in your community, we’d like you to use the service.”

She says the new bus fits their evolving service;

“We have a new wrap on the entire bus. We’ve tried to highlight it with some of the services that people would be travelling for. One of the new safety features is a new backup camera so the driver can see and hear what’s going on behind him before he backs up”

This fall Northern Health will be launching a new online booking service featuring GPS tracking as well as tweaking a few of the routes to accommodate low demand.

• PG – FSJ; will operate 2 days a week instead of 3
• Mackenzie – PG; will operate on Wednesdays instead of 2 days a week
• Fort Nelson – Dawson Creek; will leave Tuesdays and return Thursdays, providing one day a week service instead of one.
